Warped Tour: Free Stuff, enough dirt to cough up for three years, and a man named Bill; it's all in a days work!

BILL

Good Times, Good Times! Well it all started a little like this: Mike slept over my house and we took the 7:30 AM train into Woodside, which we then got off and took a bus to Randall's Island.....ok so the bus is where the day began. Let me describe the scene to give you a better idea just what we are dealing with. So we are in the back of the bus which we had just sort of entered from the side back door without paying. It ends up the bus driver decided to make it a free ride which means now we have two metro cards to use on the subway next time we go to the city...which will be for Reggie....but anyway we are standing in the back and within a few minutes we look over and a bunch of kids are playing with the ripped off head of some guy from a billboard back at the train station.......and so began the birth of BILL! These kids were friendly and quite amusing. So we get to the island and we get on line and guess who is behind us but, that's right, BILL and the kids. So the 2 hours we had to wait on line wasnt bad. So, the crazy kids that they were, decided what good was BILL without a body. So it ends up that our space on line happened to be under an overpass, so they used stickers to stick Bill on the big concrete wall thing. Now these kids are creative so when they were done with Bill let's just say he not only had a body made of stickers, but an anatomically correct one at that. I would just like to thank Bill for helping to pass the time and rock on to the creative kids who got crazy with a cut out billboard head and ended up with a new friend!

The Show

So going into Warped Tour, both Mike and I knew which bands we wanted to see. We knew which bands we wanted to be in the pit for and which ones we wanted up front for. So we got a schedule, looked at the merch tables, and then headed to the first stage to wait for Jimmy Eat World. This is one of our favorite bands. Back in October we saw Jimmy play at the Wayne Firehouse in New Jersey (that show also happens to be the best show i have ever been to......Jimmy, Hot Rod Circuit, and Dashboard)......so without a doubt we were right directly in front, smack in the middle. We were a little upset that we missed AFI (in order to be in front for Jimmy we had to wait there while AFI played) but from what we heard and saw of AFI 80's goth fashioned frontman Davey, they were good. So Jimmy came on and played an amazing set. Powerful and melodic; a "professional rock band", as Jim put it himself. So later on, at around 2:20 in the afternoon, the Dropkick Murphys played and they just generally make me and most other people happy. It seemed like alot of kids had come for them, including the three guys we saw in kilts. I didnt go in the pit although it probally would have been fun. So at 3:00, the band Thursday played on one of the smaller stages. Thursday is an awesome emo core band......my friend Dave likes them alot.....if he reads this i just want him to know i thought of him while they were on......ok anyway the day is going on and Pennywise is up on the main stage at 3:50.....I didnt really know them that well, but i remember Mike saying that he wasnt gonna go in that pit cause it would probally be real crazy......he was right. Now the truth is i wasnt really planning on going in, it just sort of happened. I started walking over with Mike, and well i got closer and closer, and then i saw the pit, and then it was all over.....biggest most dangerous pit EVER! Personally i thought it was really fun.....Mike on the other hand didnt enjoy it too much......let me just start off that we both (and anyone who was in there) got their backsides kicked.....and i mean to the extreme......let's put it this way...i came out with only half a shirt and literally pieces just missing from my bra....i dont know how...but i did.....which i think is part of the reason Mike didnt like it that much. Can you say hacking up pure dirt for like the next three days? An hour later.....and yes it took an hour to breathe at a satisfactory level again......Less Than Jake played. So we didnt go in the pit for that just cause, well, breathing was still a little on the shaky side, and besides we have both seen them several times.....dont get me wrong they put on an awesome show.....as they always do. So blah blah blah and so on.......we go over near the main stage while H2O is playing. We stayed in the back for this one. Besides, we have both seen H2O several times and you know how it is now that Toby is a big rock superstar. But whatever to that. Then, we waited by that stage while the Bouncing Souls went on, and well you can bet your bottom dollar that the pit was just as rock as the band. We wouldnt have minded being in the pit for that, but Mike and i decided to stay where we were and rest before the Ataris came on. Good Times Good Times! Anyway, then the Ataris came on and they played, and they make me really happy and they make Mike really really happy. Kris looks like such a sweetie and something about him reminds me of Mike. Well they played their set which was just rock. Oh, they played this song that's on the Warped tour comp called "Looking Back on Today"......i just want to say that song is so awesome it made me cry.....but wait i'm getting really off track. After the Ataris played we decided to get going just cause besides Rancid, there really wasnt anyone else we wanted to see.....so we went home.....everything between leaving Warped Tour and getting back to Mike's house and taking a shower is a blur. ::shrugs:: Well that was Warped Tour in more than a nutshell. It was fun, it was dirty, and it was dangerous in that sort of good feeling way.
